In the article by Hansen it looks at how it is not right for the U.S. to try to keep all of these people out and that they could help fill the jobs that no one wants but there are groups out there that will try to keep them out. The article looks at how there is a more humane option for the government to look at that would allow guest workers to remain in the country temporarily. On the 29th of August, 2005, a Category 3 Hurricane swept across the state of Louisiana and dealt major damages to the City of New Orleans, a tragedy never to be forgotten by the American Nation. Though the hurricane never hit the city itself, through its huge rainfall content, it has caused levee breaches which had dealt the most damage as flood devastated the city, and was thus dubbed as the worst engineering disaster in the history of the United States (Kilpatrick Dermisi, 2007). Lost of lives and property were dealt during the incident, as the crime rates hiked up due to the disorder caused by the hurricane, and images of criminals engaging grand theft auto were seen live on television, as buildings were burning or being wrecked by the flood. Faulty Urban Planning. The development of cities and industries has caused the increase of population in areas near industrial zones in consideration to the convenience brought about by being near to the jobs present in the area. The continuing increase in the population and demand for cheap homes have been the critical factors in pursuing the building of homes in marshlands, swamps, reclamation areas, and other low ground areas by the Government led United States Army Corps of Engineers, in the City of New Orleans. After the construction of the Inner Harbor Navigation Canal in 1940, the state closed the commercial waterways which were used before for waterborne commerce, leading to the drastic lowering of the city’s water table. The US Army Corps of Volunteers then built a levee system around the area covering much of the city’s marshlands and swamps, without consideration to the possible subsidence brought about by the compression of underlying soils. These brought about land subsidence of up to 8 feet or 2 meters in some areas which were reclaimed by the US government. A recent study of the Tulane University notes that 49% of New Orleans is below sea level, with the majority of the population on the higher ground. However, the mean elevation of the city has become between 1 and 2 feet below the sea level, with some parts as high as 16 feet and some parts as deep as 10 feet. The city is also bordered by the Mississippi River and Lake Pontchartrain, and is marbled with canals and bayous (Galle, 2007) which maybe considered geologically hazardous. Moving on. Two years after the incident, the residents of New Orleans are still trying to cope up with the emotions, and the losses which they have incurred during Hurricane Katrina. For some individuals, moving on might be a very easy thing to do, especially if they have some other place to move on to. Yet for some, the typhoon was just the beginning, especially if they’re homes have been washed out or burned by some thug or all their assets and even their pets are gone. A year after the typhoon businesses in the high ground started to bloom again, as most of the restaurants are open, the Convention Center began to have bookings, and almost all of the premium office space in the business district is occupied, and the Port of New Orleans is nearly back to normal. Tourists have also started to come back, and almost half of New Orleans’ pre-Katrina population is back mostly crowded into the high ground along the river (Ydstie, 2006). For some individuals, the damage dealt by Hurricane Katrina was something that has made them further down, as insurance companies refused to pay some victims due to some loopholes within the insurance policies such as the wind vis-à  -vis flood, and the flood vis-à  -vis hurricane policies. Some insurance companies claim that individuals could not be compensated for their wrecked homes if their insurance policy says that their houses are insured for hurricane since it was the flooding that has caused the house to be destroyed, a heartless argument that gives no consideration to the logic that there would be no flood if there was no hurricane at all. Worse are the insurance companies who argue that wind was the cause for the houses’ roofs to come off and the flooding did not cause it, thus they would only pay partially for the damages. These defenses and loopholes of insurance companies made things worst for Katrina Victims, and should be condemned. While most of the individuals suffer from more stressful damages brought about by such insurance companies, what should be stressed for them is the fact that, the first rule of insurance policy construction is that ambiguous policy language is interpreted against the drafter (â€Å"contra proferentem†) which in most cases are the insurance companies, and also that, insurance agents, must also then be sued for their negligence towards their jobs of making such loophole-full policies (Abraham, 2007). Also individuals who lost their houses are troubled by some policies such as the high ground policy which forces them to make their houses higher, individuals who have problems with stairs such as those suffering from arthritis are troubled by this. Pets after Katrina. During the Hurricane, the residents of New Orleans initially saving their lives left their pets behind. Cats and dogs of different breeds and species were lost, and were forced to roam a world which was unknown to them, while being thirsty and unfed, and while some residents were trying to find back their pets some individuals were arrogant about them such as the cop who threw out a dog named snowball out of a bus (â€Å"Snowball! Snowball!†, 2005). A year after the incident, organizations such as the North Shore Animal League of America, helped retrieved pets of New Orleans’ residents. Initiatives to house some of the pets which no one claimed, however there has been a lack of credible population to adopt such pets. Lessons learned. Some individuals say that the impact Hurricane Katrina has dealt is comparable to the impact of the Oakland Firestorm which hit Oakland California in 1991, which then, was a large urban fire which occurred in the northern Oakland, California, and which has killed 25 people and injured 150 others. While some issues of Hurricane Katrina are comparable, such as the amount of damage dealt, and the fact that most of the victims of the Oakland Firestorm were somewhat unaware of their insurance policies just like the victims of Katrina, the issues of complacency and uncompetitive planning are the factors which make the circumstances of the two incidents different. While the damages dealt by Hurricane Katrina were due to the lack of mitigation, and the lack of competitive advantage in terms of planning, the damages brought about by the fire in Oakland California were mainly due to the complacency of the residents and the local municipality in terms of controlling the fire. Reflections. While it holds true that acts of God could never be controlled by man, it must always be taken into consideration, that God has given us our brains for us to analyze and think about what we can do just in case. In the case of Hurricane Katrina, the damage could have been avoided if there were only enough mitigation done, such as holding studies about the geography and the soil composition of the area, and taking a close monitor over the movements of the soil and the water levels, and making detailed and well thought off engineering measures to prevent such incident from happening again. It must also be taken into account that there have been not enough measures to provide emotional support for the victims of the typhoon, and such emotional stress and tension must be given consideration and priority by the government and other support groups. Effective and efficient time management is something that I have room for improvement on and have great use of. I started by taking a time management survey. #1 Accept Problem My results from this diagnostic survey on time management assured me that my time management skills are low. The survey revealed that I am on the bottom of the scale of time management. There were two sections of the survey. One section measured your time management skills in an office setting and the other section measured your time management skill in your personal life. By having two sections you can compare your time management skills for the two different settings. The total score measures your overall time management skills and it also puts the score in a category. My scores of 27 points for personal life and 31 points for office settings combines to a 58 point total score. My combined score falls in to the lowest category that suggests that training is necessary and will considerably enhance my effectiveness. This statement of goals will allow you to set short range goals and to prioritize specific activities according to how much they contribute to your goals. Setting these long-range goals may be difficult. The process can force you to confront decisions that you have been putting off, or value issues that you dont want to handle. My long-term goals, intermediate, and short-term goals could look something like this: Long-Term Career Goal: Career as a Small Business Manager/Owner (6 to 8 years). Intermediate Career Goals: Enter a MBA program in Business Management (3 to 5 years). Graduate Assistantship at the Bachelors level (2 to 4 years). Short-Term Personal Goals: (Present): Major in business. Courses in management, economics, and accounting. At least a 3.5 average for my bachelors degree. Improve my career best swim times. #3, Daily, Weekly, and Semester Scheduling To be effective in time management, weekly time organization is necessary. A semester-long calendar to lay out all of your major obligations is a good tool as well. Without having clearly defined goals, scheduling will be difficult for two reasons. First, there will not be any guidelines to use for prioritizing your activities; and second, there will be trouble finding motivation to complete the tasks in the schedule. I might, for example, be tempted to go to a movie instead of studying accounting. Two general approaches to weekly scheduling can work well. How To Make A Content Development Process To Save Time Ive been a big fan of trying all sorts of beer ever since I took a trip to Germany for seven months back in 2008. To me, that stuff was going to be the best Id ever taste with the classic pilsners, bocks, and wheat beers. And when I got back to Minnesota, I tried some of the well domestics. Those macrobreweries definitely had their processes down to produce massive quantities of light-bodied stuff. But when I started exploring craft beer- the idea that smaller breweries could produce what I considered to be better quality than most commercial brands- it really got me thinking. Just because big companies are competing with you in your niche, it doesnt mean they are necessarily better at it than you are. Just because big companies compete with you, theyre not better than the quality you produce.And you can apply that idea to your content marketing. Here is how to improve your content development process to take control of your workflow to create content quickly, hit  every deadline, and improve every piece of content you publish to grow your audience. And you can do it all with a scrappy, iterative process that helps startups and small businesses like microbreweries achieve some pretty tasty results. (See what I did there?) Define The Roles You Need To Develop  Content In Kristi Hines' post on content marketing team structure, she mentions a variety of roles you could include in your content development: Content marketing strategists set the stage with the entire marketing strategy, helping your team understand your audience, the topics you'll cover, and the goals you're shooting for. Content strategists turn the strategy into a game plan complete with understanding what content and channels your team will  use to reach your audience. These people  fill up your editorial calendar with the content your team will develop. Idea contributors are exactly what you'd expect: These are the folks who are listening to your audience and help with unique angles. They have the stories you want to tell, and the ones your audience really cares about. These people could be anyone within your company or even your customers and subscribers. Content creators are the linchpins  responsible for executing your  content strategist's game plan. They are your designers, writers, videographers, and podcasters (among possible others). They are making your content. Content editors make sure your creators fulfill  your content strategist's expectations. They focus on editing for the story of your content, and also on the nitty-gritty grammar stuff. Editors are the ones using your editorial calendar every day, keeping your creators on task, and publishing content as you expect. Content promoters are the magical creatures who amplify what you created to inspire interest in your content. If your content is the party, these folks send the invitations to attend. They use social media, email, forums, and tons of other content promotion tactics to increase your traffic. Community managers monitor the ensuing conversation your content creates. They respond to social media mentions and comments, and help build a strong network of brand advocates. Content analysts check out the stats behind the scenes to know how your content contributes to your goals. They'll check out Google Analytics and Kissmetrics (or whatever analytics tools you use) to help your content strategist plan even better content. This is where that iterative approach- the secret ingredient to your content development process- really comes into play. Now, that may seem like a lot of people. But what you're really looking at here is roles, not titles. These roles make for a very solid content development process, so now you can choose which roles are necessary for your own process and who among your team will fill these roles. A solo marketer could do all of these, or you could divvy them up among your team. Jay Acunzo  recently published a super entertaining post about marketing team structure and how it kind of... well... sucks sometimes. As a former Googler, he mentions how Google's sales team is organized into pods to capture the talents of folks  with tons of different skill sets.  And I loved this thought to find the right people for your team  to kick off your content development process in the right direction. Jay says teams should be: Small to be nimble, quick, and focus on developing content  instead wasting time on  office bureaucracy. Complementary to have multiple skills for the different parts of the process. Singular to have one clear goal instead of tons.  Finally get some focus to understand why you're developing content  to collaborate and celebrate when you reach your goal! Shared to work together toward a common mission or purpose. In the end, Jay recommends narrowing the list of roles down to three players, as he calls them: A strategist to provide the vision, lead the team, look at analytics, and plan the content. A producer to be "the artist, because God knows, SOMEONE has to care about quality, craft, creativity, and emotional or intellectual resonance with the audience." I had to include that quote. :) A marketer to promote the content, generate interest, and convert traffic into subscribers and customers. I'm with Jay: We do a lot with a small team  leading our content marketing efforts at right now, and Jay's suggestions  are similar to the roles  we have on our  team.  It helps us move super fast to publish quickly, on time, and consistently. By agreeing as a group of doers and getting your  supervisors all on the same page, y’all agree to give the power to publish  to your strategists. Seth Godin writes about this concept a lot  in his awesome book, Linch Pin  (which you should seriously buy right now if you've never read it): Write down the due date. This is the date you will publish- whether the content's  done or not. Capture every idea about your project, inviting anyone who wants to contribute. Seth says, "This is their big chance." Record every idea in a way everyone can see, ask them to check it out, and let them know this is it- after you get approval, there's no going back. Organize everything into a comprehensive outline of the project now that it's completely approved. This is your project blueprint from start to finish. Take that blueprint to the big guns in your company and final approval from the people with sign-off control. Then ask them, "If I deliver what you approved, on budget and on time, will you ship it?" Don't move forward until they say yes. No maybes, no "I'll know when I see it", nothing other than your yes. Nice job, linchpin. Choose Task-Based Workflows Over Status-Based Workflows Now that you know who on your team will serve in specific roles to help you create your content- and how you'll publish quickly while avoiding office bureaucracy- it's time to develop your workflows. Essentially, you want to meet with your team you just defined to understand how you'll work together to create consistent content that will always hit your deadlines. This is the actual planning of your content development process- understanding exactly how you’ll do this with the resources available to you. Since we’re talking through the experience of an agile startup, keep it simple to error on the side of shipping rather than too many steps that slow down your publishing. Err on the side of publishing  rather than processes that slow you down. #contentmarketingStatus-based workflows make it nearly impossible to understand every task that you and your team need to check off your to-do list before you publish your content. Just think of the typical statuses you see in WordPress: How will you know who is responsible for each status, and what exactly they’re supposed to be working on? Task-based workflows help you dissect all the work that goes into creating a piece of content- whatever it is (blog posts, e-books, webinars, you name it)- to help you choose a specific person accountable for each task, along with deadlines for every task. By dissecting your content into tasks, you can provide a ton of direction to your team to avoid any confusion about who’s doing what and when they need to have their work done. Here’s what a simple task-based workflow looks like any blog post we publish at : When you look at this, it’s helpful in a ton of  different ways: Begin every task with a verb that demands action. Make your tasks super clear by highlighting exactly what the task entails, while also being brief. Assign each task to a specific person who clearly knows they are responsible for helping you create some part of your content. Send  a notification that specifically communicates with each member of your team when you assign them a new task. Set clear deadlines for when you expect each task to be complete. Understand the difference between deadlines and your publish dates. Help your team understand the date on your marketing calendar is the publish date for when your content will be 100% complete, while assigning tasks with deadlines for days or even weeks before the content is set to publish. Remind your team before their tasks are due. Unless you’re that chick from Ex Machina, your team is full of humans. Subtle reminders of task due dates help  those busybodies know when their tasks are due so they don’t forget and accidentally cause your project to miss its deadline. Task-based workflows are especially helpful so you can have multiple team members working on different tasks at the same time, which is slightly lost with status-based workflows. Those steps above are exactly how we do it at , too, and it really works for us. Communicate Efficiently With An Agreed-Upon Tool The five  parts of  your task-based workflow may sound like a lot of manual work. But it really depends on the tools you use as a team to manage your content development process. Spoiler alert: That source- as a marketing project management tool- is . Task manager: Define as many workflows as you need for the different types of content you use in your marketing strategy. Manage Multiple Projects At Once While Nailing Every Deadline You experience  a learning curve every time you take on a new project. For example, if you’re adding blogging to your list of marketing tactics, you have an entirely new process to learn as you get started. So take your time. When you start any new project, quantity isn’t the goal. Consistency isn’t important if what you’re publishing is junk. Here's how we do it at : Do one thing well. Actually,  as we like  to joke, "Don't half-ass two things. Whole-ass one thing." It's silly, but there's a lot of truth to that. Hamburgers and Ground Beef   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Each individual in America has a goal he or she wants to accomplish. Whether it’s to purchase a new car or a huge home, it’s a goal wanted to be reached. However with the amount of fast food that Americans eat today, they will have a hard time accomplishing these goals because of the obesity or even disease they’ll have from the fast food. One major fast food that we like to eat while on the go is hamburgers. If it’s breakfast we grab a burger, if it’s lunch we grab a burger and even when it’s dinner we will grab a burger and might throw in some fires and a huge soda to go with it. Hamburgers are one of the leading causes of obesity and disease catching food.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  In the Bio Analogics article it states that nearly two-thirds of residents of United States are overweight, and since 1991 the incidence of obesity has risen from 12 percent to more than 25 percent. This is due to the amount of junk food and burgers, we ate daily. To see if I am also one of these fast food consuming eaters, I composed a diary of what I eat daily and I discovered that within my weekly schedule, that’s between school and work- I eat hamburgers at least three times a week. I ate these burgers not just from one place, I ate them from four different places. The first one I ate was at In-and-Out. The second one was at Fuddruckers. The fourth day I had one in McDonalds and on the sixth day in which my friends and I went to Applebee’s after work and I still had the nerve to order a hamburger even when there were other items on the menu.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Hamburgers come from ground beef, which in reality if you consume a couple of hamburgers per month, it won’t harm you, but it states in ConsumerReports.org, â€Å"Americans show their affection for ground beef and burgers by consuming approximately 30 pounds of ground beef per person per year. Ground beef's saturated fat can contribute to heart disease, and the bacteria it sometimes harbors can sicken or kill someone who eats beef that is not cooked thoroughly.† With this information available to Americans daily, we still do consume the ground beef and even have the nerve to tell ourselves and our friends that we plan to cut back on it any day now.

Individual’s rights within a health and social care setting include having access to services and medication.Services should not unlawfully discriminate service users due to their race, gender, disability, religion, belief, or sexuality. Another right of an individual within health and social care is being treated with respect and dignity. No matter what the persons circumstances are when using health or social care services they should always be treated fairly and with respect defiantly if they are in a vulnerable state. Communication is also another right of an individual.Every health and social care setting should have trained professionals who know how to convey effective communication to avoid assumptions and discrimination. As the patients or service users should feel comfortable talking to the staff and know what is happening to them or further plans. For example in a hospital setting once a patient has come out of a big operation a staff member should be able to effectively communicate with them and inform them of all the information that is needed to be given to them.Translators should also be part of any health and social care organisations or easily contacted. All the rights of individuals are included within the Humans Right Act (1998) and they should be applied to the fullest with no contradictory. National policy initiatives National policy initiatives are Laws put together by society rather than the government. They reduce and sometimes stop marginalisation and promote the rights of individuals, whilst meeting their nee ds.The promotion of anti-discriminatory practice is done through the national policies by targeting areas where it is needed. For example the Human Rights Act (1998) and the Disability Discrimination Act (2005), both address anti-discriminatory practice in different ways by ensuring that individuals are treated with respect and dignity and all there other rights are received 2 when being supported by health and social care settings. Every Child Matters (2003) The national policy initiative that will be assessed is Every Child Matters (2003).The aim of this national initiative is to extend services to improve children's life chances and help them with life time problems. This policy highlights the need for services, including schools and social workers and health professionals to work more closely to protect and support the needs and rights of all children. Eight-year old Victoria Climbie died from hypothermia on 25 February 2000 after months of sustained abuse at the hands of her fo ster-carer and Great Aunt, MarieTherese Kouao and her partner Carl John Manning.Victoria visited health and social care settings many times during her being abused and she was complete discharged with no member of staff questioning her marks on her arms and legs and how she broke her leg. Also due to her race she had dark skin colour and therefor bruising was not as apparent. The poor 8 year old went through complete torture and abuse for many years of her life and the health and social care services failed her so many times.Following Victoria’s death, the Home Office and the Department of Health invited Lord Laming who is very well known to work with social services and child protection came to a conclusion that there had been to many deaths of young children who have suffered abuse and completely been neglected by the health and social care services. Lord Laming’s report stated that Victoria’s death had been entirely preventable 12 key occasions were identifie d where services could have successfully interfered to prevent Victoria coming to further harm.The 12 key occasions missed consisted of poor decision-making support for front line workers; and failure to share information within and between agencies. This is where multi agency working became more well-known and the every child matters policy (2003) was released with all the enquiries of lord laming which mainly consisted of the services working as a team and making sure that the health and social care settings make sure all assessments are done thoroughly.The Every Child Matters Policy (2003) was formed through lord lammings enquiries and was closely related to the Children’s Act (2004). Through lord lamming this policy and legislation are able to protect children like Vitoria Climbie and the other cases such as Baby P. The Every Child Matters Policy (2003) promotes anti 3 discriminatory practice in many ways but the five main aspects are the: healthiness Stay safe Enjoy and Achieve Make a positive contribution Achieve economic wellbeing The first assessment of this national initiative policy is the development of healthy lifestyles in children.The holistic approach is used in promoting health to adolescents and children as the following are looked at: physical, sexual health, exercise, controlling personal stress and having self-esteem. Mental and emotional health are two that are very important in promoting anti discriminatory practice within health and social care as they both are the main focus to what influences an individual’s behaviour and well-being. The next assessment is the safety of children this policy provides. The every child matters policy helps in ensuring that children stay safe from harm.For example abuse in any form including discrimination, marginalization and disempowerment. This also includes all health and social care settings to make sure they follow the child protection legislation and criminal records bureau (CRB) check s for all staff in health and social care setting as they work with the most vulnerable of people. Protecting young people from bullying, harassment and other forms of discrimination is vital as it can have major effects on the child’s future life.Around 1 in 2 children are effected by bulling during school and do unfortunately under achieve and sometimes even turn to suicide (bullying statistics 2009: online). The child matter policy help in promoting anti discriminatory practice in health and social care organisations to keep a clear understanding on how to stop bulling and train staffs in following legislations, policies and procedures to help and reduce forms of bullying and harassment within all different aspect sexual, physical or verbal. Achieving economic well-being is also included in this policy.It also helps in promoting anti –discrimination by helping children grow good teamwork qualities that will stop them from not only discriminating but also stop others from discriminating. The influence of this policy allows settings like schools to prepare children for the skills and knowledge needed for employment and for living economically independently. It also helps children in developing self- confidence again 4 promoting anti -discrimination as the person being discriminated at can build a good relationship with themselves to prevent them from being effected by the discrimination which could lead to low self- esteem and isolation.This assessment proves to have very positive outcomes on young children as it helps them be trained for the bigger world and allows them to see how they can get good carers and be financially competent. It also includes allowing children to be able to access opportunities for work experience and work-based learning to help them again for the future. On another assessment the child matter policy also includes the importance of children enjoying education and training, and the extent to which children make progress with regard to their learning and their personal development.The influence of this aspect has major promotions to anti-discrimination as it educates children in understanding the wrongness of discrimination and how it is unacceptable in society. This also helps children in later life to have a better quality life as the children will feel as though they have achieved something and this can stop children in underachieving schools to simply by making sure that they are enjoying their lessons. This also reduces abscesses and overall improves assessment levels.Teaching children to safeguard them from abuse and neglect can also have a very positive outlook as it is very unfortunate that t not all abuse are recognised and does not stop them either for example the baby p case. Also anti-discrimination can be promoted through a wide curriculum including in teaching children in many different cultures religions value and beliefs.Education is a major promotion in anti-discrimination and health and social care settings can support it by allowing staff to be open mind when approaching children in whatever they do. For example when a teacher is to teach a lesson they should make it fun and exciting that will help the learner be more positive about what they are being taught and actually enjoy it. Advocacy this is usually for the most vulnerable of people therefore this policy uses advocacy to makes sure that the rights of children are given to them in any circumstance.However the advocate needs to make sure they do not start to 5 talk and express themselves through their prospects but rather the individuals. This is also part of being an empathetic professional. Many children do need advocates as they are sometimes un aware of the issues going on around them. For example if a child is experiences discrimination from a teacher they may not see it as discrimination and not do anything about this is where an advocate can help. Advocates can also help children to be involved in planning their care and support with regards to their wishes, hopes and dreams.Every health and social care setting needs to have in place policies and procedures that are followed one by the legislation or acts. All health and social care professionals need to abide by the policies and procedures of the organisation to make sure they meet their role in the appropriate way by following the regulations. The every child matters policy does promote this in there regulations and support every employer in doing so. This is done through efficient training and experience. This is part of the professional’s rights to be allowed to have the training that they may need during their practice.This assessment does not only link with the ever child matters policy but all the other national policy initiatives. It has a great influence on the service users as the policies and procedures are mainly made for their benefits and safeguarding the individuals within the practice. The final assessment on the every child matters policy is the promotion of children’s welfare. This is linked to ant discrimination in many ways as it looks at ensuring every child has an equal opportunity no matter where they are from to achieve the best possible development they can.Some children may have been deprived of opportunities and assistance in early life due to their background or money issues within the family. This policy helps in problems like that and provide free services for people who cannot afford it also the promotion of anti-discrimination is done through this by allowing a whole range of different children from different ethnicities, religions and overall values come together to gain the same skills and experience s that can be used latter in their adult lives. A central aim of education in citizenship and personal development is to enable pupils ‘to become more self-confident and responsible in and beyond the classroom. For example behaving in a polite and respectful manner and also picking up litter. This is a promotion of anti-discriminatory practice as young children are taught on how to respect and care for people.For example telling the children that every race, religion and age is the same and they should all respect each other. Also this is strength in implementing anti-discriminatory practice as citizenship lessons educate children in very important li fe skills such as political and public life. it also educates children in situations where they are vulnerable to abuse and how to get help quickly and safely. For example a stranger taking a teenage girl out to a meal is one of the first steps to rape or even gang rape.Education is the strength seen in the lesson provided for students called citizenship as Hannah Richardson a reporter on BBC news states that there are chances of citizenship lessons to become non-mandatory however it has proven to be a great lesson and made some students truly flourish (2010: online) Strength of the Every Child Matters policy is that it also provided a good initial advice and guidance through this policy. Another strength that links to the citizenship lessons is the wide range of curriculum enhancement activities for learners.For example educational visits in and out of the country, musical art at lunch times similar to sports and extra curriculum activates such as work experience and working enterp rise day are all good ways in promoting anti-discriminatory practice within schools as it again educates students on a wide range of ideas rather than what they just read from text books. For example taking student to Auschwitz in Poland to learn the horrifies of the concentration camps rather than reading it from a text book allows them to see how far discrimination went and how it killed up to 4. million people according to The nizkor project (2011: online) Allowing students to experience and see rather then read and hear can make them more passionate about the whole subject. A third strength of the Every Child Matters Policy in promoting anti discriminatory practice in health and social care is the different health and social care services 7 working together. Also known as multi agency working. Multi-agency working provides benefits for children, young people and families because they receive tailormade support in the most efficient way.The main positive parts in multi-agency working that help in promoting antidiscriminatory is through early identification and intervention which would have again helped previous cases such as Victoria Climbie and baby P. Easier or quicker access to services or expertise is another part of what makes the multi-agency working more sufficient and can save children from situations in time to spear their lives. This also promotes anti-discrimination as it does not marginalise children in poverty it is an overall strategy to help all children.Overall multi-agency work creates a better quality of service whether the child is using the hospital; dentist or a social worker the different agencies and professionals putting their work together gives a higher chance of the child being in safe hands. However there is also weakness seen in multi-agency work that differ the effects of promoting anti discriminatory practice. For example challenges for workers of creating new professional identities in the growing com munities Of practice in other words professionals become confused in where they stand within the agency.This can cause negative behaviour and in some cases lead to discriminatory practice completely defeating the purpose of promoting anti discriminatory practice. For example if hospital agency joins with a social care agency there may be tension between what each member of staff is eligible to say to the rest of the group and where they are higher than the social workers as there manager or below them. Another weakness of, multi-agency work is the professionals background and form of language.As many health and social care professionals use jargon that suits there profession for example medical jargon for move a limb or some other body part away from the midline of the body would be abduction and ABG – arterial blood gas reading. Certain abbreviation can cause difficulties in promoting anti discriminatory practice in the setting as other agencies may feel that they are not be ing told in full of the case. For example social workers may not understand medical jargon and therefore feel that there agency is being left out and not considered.Weakness seen of the education stream the every child policy enquires went there where positive but there also stands negative or weakness that where seen. Evan 8 though Ofsted did believe that the curriculum was boosted by citizenship OFSTED (2012: online) some students felt that they did not want to do the subject as they had heard most of it before. As an eight-year-old said recently, â€Å"It‘s so boring when they keep telling you that making the world a better place means picking up litter and not killing whales‘. BBC News (2012 online) again anti-discrimination is not seen to be prompted if the pupils feel that they do not want to do citizenship as it will benefit them in the least possible way. Also this will lead to an effect of discrimination known as disempowerment as the children may feel they are not given a choice in what they want to and do not want to learn. Overall this criterion has shown the assessments and evaluations of a national policy initiative which is the every child matters policy (2003) that are mostly linked to the Human Right Act (1998).The practices mentioned are very important to be fulfilled in a child’s life for them to have a positive outcome in the adult life. The Human Right Act is the central for health and social care settings. As employers need to be aware of them in any situation to protect all patients and service users of health and social care.
